Journaling by the Moonlight
A Mother’s Path to Self-Discovery
You’re a mother, but who are you really?
This workbook (with a foreword written by Kay Adams, founder of the Center for Journal Therapy) and accompanying journaling card deck gently guide you on a journey through the moon phases as you explore your most authentic self and begin to connect the dots that lead to a life filled with purpose, passion, and creative expression.
What inspired Journaling by the Moonlight?
I’ve always had a fascination with the moon. After studying the phases of the moon in astronomy classes and the astrological impact it can have on personal transformation, I began to explore the spiritual connections that the moon has brought to many cultures over thousands of years. No matter where we are in the world, we can see the moon. It’s something that we all have in common.
The moon has brought great comfort to me in my life, particularly during a time when I felt a loss of personal identity. This was during my first two years of becoming a mother – a time of joy and celebration, but also a time of anxiety, depression, and confusion. I was a mother, but who was I really?
I took many walks during that time, gazing at the moon and trying to make sense of who I was and what purpose my life served. I captured these thoughts in my journal as I processed the transition that was taking place around me – and within me. And it was during this two-year period that I began my love affair with our lunar goddess, the moon.
I became curious about her transitional phases, moving from darkness into light – and I began to notice how her natural phases began to match my own. It was this curiosity that sparked a genuine thirst to learn all I could about the moon – and how she impacts the emotional tides of women.
Taking this knowledge and the understanding of the moon’s place in spiritual transformation, I combined it with my training as a life purpose coach and a journaling workshop facilitator. Together, this combination created a path of self-discovery for me – a path that I want to share with the many mothers who feel a loss of personal identity.
“Journaling by the Moonlight has such a powerful purpose in the world. Tina’s support, inspiration, and insight not only allow mothers to explore themselves and become more of who they were meant to be, Tina is also empowering generations to come–spiritually healthy moms create healthy children and healthy communities. As Tina shows mothers how to heal through journaling, she is literally healing the world.”
~ Sheri McConnell, founder and president of the National Association of Women Writers
In my book, Journaling by the Moonlight: A Mother’s Path to Self-Discovery, I share my personal story of transformation and how it led me on a path of self-exploration. I also share stories from other moms who embarked on similar journeys. Designed as a workbook with a journaling format, the book allows for personal reflection with many opportunities to answer the question, “I’m a mother, but who am I really?”
Working with the phases of the moon as a source for personal transformation, mothers who are challenged by the loss of personal identity are gently guided on their own paths of self-exploration – leading to a life of purpose, passion and creative expression. The accompanying deck of 54 journaling prompt cards (divided into nine phases of the moon, including the blue moon) support the self-discovery process outlined in the book.
“Tina brings to light the conflicts of motherhood which most of us mothers feel – yet may not feel comfortable divulging and/or exploring. With compassion and by telling her own story, she takes you by the hand and walks you through a process of moonlit journaling – a process which every mother would benefit.”
~ Ruth Folit, director of the International Association for Journal Writing, and the creator of LifeJournal software
